|Rehabilitation Therapy Technician I Performs entry-level habilitation and rehabilitation therapy work. Work involves providing habilitative and rehabilitative services to individuals with mental impairments. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Studies individual's behavior to determine the need for and value of therapeutic activities and notes individual's progress. Accompanies individuals to and from activities and appointments. Writes progress notes used to communicate individual information to other staff. Performs housekeeping duties in therapeutic activity areas. Assists in instructing individuals in therapeutic activities, such as arts, crafts, drama, music, painting, sewing, and recreation; and provides feedback regarding individual's progress. Assists in the preparation of materials for therapeutic activities and maintains adequate supply of materials. Performs related work as assigned. Need to have ability to work flexible hours as related to scheduled activities.|
|Essential Job Functions:
1.Attends work on a regular and predicatable basis in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other job duties as assigned.
2.Provides recreational, vocational, leisure time and special activities on a scheduled basis for groups of individuals as assigned. (60%)
3.Transports individuals to and from activities by driving state vehicles or other approved and scheduled methods of transportation, including but not limited to, buses and tractor and/or pick up driven trams. (10%)
4.Participates as a member of interdisciplinary teams. Complete required assessments and provides information to assist IDTs in formulating goals and objectives. (5%)
5.Provides personal care to indiviudals served and assistance with nutritional services as needed. (10%)
6.Works haromoniously with fellow employees, supervisors, family and friends of individuals served. (on-going) Takes action needed to ensure the safety and well being of individuals served. (on-going) Requests and/or assists all staff as needed or directed to ensure appropriate care of each individual (on-going) Performs additional duties as requested.(5%)
7.Provides behavior intervention that involves administering behavior intervention programs and intervening to prevent injury to indiviudals or employees. (10%)
|Knowledge Skills Abilities:
The Rehab Therapy Tech I should possess interpersonal skills necessary for positive interaction with individuals. Also necessary is the ability to effectively communicate with all customers and co-workers. Must have the ability to recognize and effectively address potentially problematic behaviors. Must have ability to drive and operate lifts on state vehicles. Must be physically and mentally able to assist with and/or provide adequate supervision of individuals assigned. Must be able to successfully meet all state driving and training requirements. Should be flexible in hours available for work in order to accommodate schedule alterations when needed
|Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it within 90 days of hire. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
|Initial Selection Criteria:
High school diploma or GED, previous work experience. Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred. Experience in therapeutic work is generally preferred.
