Description
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to oversee the design, development, and support of complex electronic power systems for the defense/aerospace industry. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design enclosures, structures, cooling systems, components, assemblies, assembly fixtures, and/or test fixtures using applicable military and industry standards and specifications.
- Lead design reviews of detailed models, drawings, BOMs, and other engineering documents to ensure successful manufacturing and implementation of HDL products.
- Develop new processes and streamline existing HDL manufacturing practices to support the acquisition of new business.
- Modify existing products to meet internal or external customer requirements.
- Perform thermal and structural finite element analysis on components and assemblies to ensure design compliance with customer requirements. Confirm model validity with test data and relevant hand calculations when appropriate.
- Create test apparatuses and procedures for HDL products. Analyze and review test data against HDL and customer expectations, iterate test parameters, and present test results to HDL technical staff and customers.
- Present mechanical designs during customer-facing reviews.
- Coordinate with HDL production and machine shop teams to support manufacturing requirements.
- Provide technical support to customers and associates.
Requirements
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience.
- 3D CAD modeling experience; Autodesk Inventor preferred.

Preferred, But Not Required:
- Knowledge of ANSYS, ANSYS APDL, or equivalent FEA (Abaqus, MSC Nastran/Patran).
- Knowledge of ASME drafting standards, particularly GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
- Experience working with formed sheet metal parts and circuit card assemblies.
- Experience designing ruggedized, highly-reliable electromechanical systems capable of surviving harsh environments (e.g., high-g, high vibration, high and low temperature).
- Experience with the design, fabrication, and assembly of proof-of-concept models.
- Portfolio of past work/projects.
