Under general supervision, the Digital Evidence Technician is responsible for the processing, storage, maintenance, security and inventory of evidentiary and custodial digital evidence under the care of the Brenham Police Department. Including managing and ensuring secure storage of digital multimedia evidence. Ensures the integrity of digital evidence received and stored including completing chain of custody forms and completing tracking for each piece of evidence. Responds to and fulfills requests for evidence in accordance with state, city, or departmental rules and regulations.

High school graduation or its equivalent plus two years of experience in Police related work, or civilian-related fields such as inventory control, computer warehouse operations, or maintenance of records; experience working with audio, video, and digital media is required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
State statutes, city ordinances, and laws and policies relating to the handling of evidence; computerized inventory control systems, records management, and Microsoft software including word processing, excel, and outlook, department policies and procedures; standard office practices and procedures; and first aid procedures.
Understanding of the application and ethics of video evidence for court purposes; read manuals and interpret policies and procedures; write letters, memos, and instructions; perform basic mathematical calculations; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement and government officials, co-workers, and the general public; and operate a computer using standard word processing and spreadsheet software.
Valid Texas driver’s license. TCIC/NCIC certification within 6 months of hire, and CJIS certification upon hire; Certification from the Texas Association of Property and Evidence Technicians required, or completion within one year of hire date; Digital Evidence Management course required to be completed within one year of hire date.

The employee must be able to use hands and fingers to write and/or type reports and information into computer and have a working knowledge of firearms. The employee frequently must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as stacks of records or equipment and materials. The employee occasionally may be called upon to perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations. The employee must be able to see clearly, with or without vision correction, in close situations, at a distance, and peripherally, and be able to recognize colors and adjust focus.
